ROS Expands Emission-Free Chain with New Zero-Emission Push Boat and Push Barges from KOTUG and Jansma
September 10, 2024
ROS, a leading Rotterdam-based company specializing in sand transshipment and transport, is proud to announce a major expansion for their zero-emission logistics chain. In cooperation with the Rotterdam-based companies KOTUG and Jansma, ROS has purchased a fully electric pusher and accompanying barges. This innovative expansion will enable ROS to transport sand emission-free from the Maasvlakte to Rotterdam, where it will also be unloaded and further transported by emission-free electric trucks.
The electric pusher will be ready in May 2025, with the first shipments scheduled for June/July. The entire zero-emission system, from transshipment to transport, is expected to be fully operational by August 2025. This confirms ROS as a pioneer in zero-emission transport, both on land as on water, in the Rotterdam region.
Innovative vision and preparing for the future
Marco Kruithof, director van ROS, explains: “Our mission has always been to be at the forefront of sustainable innovations within our industry, and to prepare ROS for the next generation. Innovation, such as electrification, plays a crucial role in this. By proactively responding to these developments, we ensure that ROS can continue to grow.”
ROS’ focus on emission-free transport began several years ago with the purchase of an electric crane for sand transfer. ROS now has its own transformer in Schiedam, and a charging station with four fast charges for electric trucks. The next step is a charging point for the new pusher, with a capacity of 1 megawatt - a rapid ‘fast charger’ that will also be available to third parties. This charging point will be one of the first of its kind in Rotterdam and will help accelerate emission-free shipping.
ROS continues to innovate
“With the introduction of our zero-emission pusher, our entire chain, from transshipment to transport, is completely emission-free. This makes us unique in the region, and allows us to serve customers, such as governments, municipalities, and large contractor companies, even better. We remain committed to further electrification and innovation to continuously strengthen our zero-emission chain and preparing ourselves for the furture,” Marco concluded.
Together with KOTUG and Jansma, ROS is committed to the future of emission-free transportation in the region and will continue to develop as a leader in the logistics sector.
